University Overview

Located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province-the Land of Abundance, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) is the most famous university on information technology affiliated to the Ministry of Education of P.R. China.

1956 UESTC (Originally named Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering), the first electronic information institute of higher education in newChina, was founded;

1960 Ranked as one of the nation’s key higher education institutions;

1988 Renamed University of Electronic Science and Technology ofChina(UESTC);

1997 Included in the first group of Project 211 universities (Top 100);

2001 Selected as one of Project 985 universities (Top 34);

2009 Top 5 among the 72 universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education of P.R. China (Chinese Education News Report);

2011 Top 3 among all universities in southwestChina.

UESTC has more than 3,879 faculty members. Among them over 2000 are full-time teachers, and more than 477 are professors. UESTC has a current enrollment of 33,000 students, including 9000 doctors and masters.

UESTC keeps close link with more than 200 universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises from over 30 countries and regions all over the world. The university organizes international academic conferences more than ten times annually.

World-renown companies like Intel, Microsoft, TI and IBM have set up in this university joint laboratories, research centers, scholarship projects, etc, and participate directly in the personnel training.

Under the guidance of vigorously promoting international education, some successful cooperative programs such as the joint International MBA Program offered by UESTC and Webster University(USA), ISCTE (Portugal)-UESTC (China) DBA Program, and UESTC Alliance Française have already cultivated several sessions’ students all over the world. Besides, the cooperative program of electronic information engineering offered by UESTC and University of Glasgow(UK) have been approved to enroll new students this year. The university has signed cooperation and exchange agreements with such well-known foreign universities as UCB, UCLA, Northwest University, University of Glasgow, University of London, etc.

Currently, there were on campus approximately 700 international students from more than 60 countries, including undergraduate, master, doctoral, exchange and visiting students.
